What we do

We provide support and advice for voluntary sector groups.  These can be anything from small local groups to registered and unregistered charities, and social enterprises.  Collectively these are called Voluntary, Community, and Social Enterprise (VCSE) organisations.  We aim to be a one-stop-shop for organisations at any stage in their development, and can provide support around topics like:

  • Finding funding
  • Answering governance queries
  • Advice on how to start up
  • Support to get the right structure
  • Policy advice

And much more!  If it is to do with VCSE organisations, we can help or signpost you to the best place to get help.

One to One Support

Got a question, or come across an issue, and need advice? We can provide one-to-one support by email, phone, or face-to-face (online or in person depending on the situation).  Our Development Team have a wealth of knowledge and experience with voluntary sector organisations and issues that affect them. To get in touch with the Team, email office@communityactionnorfolk.org.uk

Updates for Breckland

The Government has responded to a joint proposal for the reorganisation of local government in Norfolk, which will be examined in detail over the coming days.

Local people to see their high streets revived, community hubs saved, and public services transformed and strengthened through the Plan for Neighbourhoods, announced on 4th March 2025.

We have a, fully furnished office space available for rent in Dereham. Our office space comfortably accommodates up to three people, making it perfect for a small team or business.

As part of our advocacy efforts for the Voluntary, Community, and Social Enterprise (VCSE) Sector in 2022 we identified a need for referrers to voice their concerns and share professional insights.  To address this gap, we initiated Referrers' Network Meetings quarterly in Breckland and North Norfolk.

In May 2022, Defra announced a £3 million Platinum Jubilee Village Halls Fund, to mark Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee. Applications were invited from halls looking to modernise and improve facilities and after completing a successful Stage 1 application, Community Action Norfolk contacted all Norfolk applicants to offer them help and advice to compose their bids before they completed their Stage 2 application. Read below how we helped Wretham Village Hall and how we can help you.

In a world where people live longer and individuals with complex needs from all walks of life become isolated due to circumstances beyond their control, it is more and more important that they have someone to turn to in their hour of need.

A chance for you to meet our Team, and put faces to names.

CAN is working in partnership with Future Projects in combating social isolation in the Breckland and North Norfolk districts of the county.  We'd be grateful if those reading this and living or working in Breckland or North Norfolk could share this information - especially to anyone you know who may be interested in volunteering. Thank you.

The Desert Rats Association is raising money to build a new memorial to the men and women who have served in the division from 1940 to the modern day. To do that they needed funding, and lead fundraiser Beverley Cooper - a campaigner and fundraiser of many years’ experience and standing -turned to CAN for further advice and direction.

There are definite benefits to registering as a charity, not least of which is credibility when applying to potential funders. Making your case to the Charity Commission needs to be done in an organised and planned way.
