Community Action Norfolk (CAN) launched their innovative Gardening Community aimed at promoting sustainable gardening practices across the region in April this year. This project offers an opportunity for individuals, allotment holders, and gardening groups to come together, share their experiences, and contribute to a more environmentally friendly and resilient Norfolk.
As climate change becomes increasingly evident, the importance of gardens in mitigating its impacts has never been more crucial. Whether your garden is large or small, there are numerous ways to help combat the causes and effects of climate breakdown. Trees and plants play a significant role in removing carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere, reducing the risk of flooding by slowing down rainwater runoff, and providing habitats for local wildlife. Beyond their environmental benefits, gardens also provide food, support mental health, and, of course, look beautiful.
By joining the Gardening Community, participants will enjoy a wealth of benefits, including:
Gardening for Wellbeing: Learn how gardening can improve your mood, reduce stress, and enhance your overall wellbeing.
Community Engagement: Connect with fellow gardeners, share ideas, experiences, and sustainable gardening tips.
Exclusive Webinars and Workshops: Access expert-led webinars and workshops focused on sustainable gardening practices.
Environmental Impact: Contribute to Norfolk’s water conservation efforts and understand your role in mitigating climate change impacts.
As an added incentive, the first 350+ individuals to sign up for the Gardening Community will receive a free 100-litre water butt, courtesy of Aqualogic and Anglian Water. This offer is available exclusively through CAN and is part of our effort to encourage sustainable water use in local gardens and allotments.
Participants will be provided with a unique code to claim their water butt through the Aqualogic website. This initiative not only supports water conservation but also helps gardeners reduce their reliance on mains water, especially during hosepipe bans and dry spells.
By signing up, members will be part of a vibrant community dedicated to sustainable gardening and will have access to a range of resources, including our newly established Facebook group, where members can share tips, ask questions, and stay connected.
We are keen to know what our members want from this community. Whether it’s more workshops, specific gardening tips, or anything else, we’re here to make this community work for you. Your feedback is vital in shaping the future of this project.
