The details:

We know that increasing energy costs are crippling some of our vital organisations, and many groups struggle to get independent advice about energy solutions that doesn’t come with a sales pitch.  NRG Solutions have partnered with us to help Norfolk’s VCSE sector overcome some of these challenges.

Energy Audits

Take their energy audits, for example.  If you need to cut your energy costs, knowing where your biggest demand is, will really help you think about practical ways to reduce this.  It will also help you to see what areas to tackle first.

The audits cover:

  • Buildings and their makeup
  • Heating and Ventilation systems
  • Cooling
  • Lighting
  • Equipment
  • Processes
  • Existing Sustainability Initiatives (Current procedures and technologies)

The audits include an onsite visit, and report.  For VCSE groups using our reference code, this costs £450.

How has an audit helped a group locally?

Parkside School in Norwich recently benefited from an energy audit, giving the school a clear understanding of where energy was being used, where it was being wasted, and what practical steps could be taken to reduce costs and improve sustainability.

NRG Solutions carried out a comprehensive assessment of the school's buildings and energy systems. This included reviewing heating controls to ensure they were operating as efficiently as possible, using thermal imaging to identify heat loss from hot water pipes and valves, advising on lighting upgrades, investigating issues with the underfloor heating and solar thermal systems, and recommending a range of practical improvements to reduce energy use, lower running costs and support the school's long-term sustainability.

"Coming highly recommended, Oliver visited our site on a day and time to fit in with us. From the start you realise the passion Oliver and NRG have for their customers and ongoing sustainability. Walking round the site Oliver was quick to point out some simple (yet effective) solutions to heat loss. Delving into the entire fabric of our site Oliver was able to gain an understanding of the day to day running of a SEND school; the areas where we were losing energy and overnight usage.

By building a comprehensive document of where savings can be made, solutions for long term problems and technologies to suit. A pragmatic document that explains everything in layman's terms shunning the use of industry jargon. NRG have come across as consummate professionals intent on delivering for their customers."

– Justin Howard, Premises Manager, Parkside School, Norwich

Energy Procurement

Using their market insights and forecasting of your energy consumption they can help you secure the best energy contracts for you.  We all know that there are comparison sites when it comes to renewing your contracts, but with a technical understanding of what your energy use is likely to be for the future, and how different suppliers accommodate different patterns of use, they can help you get a contract that supports how you work – saving you money.

They can also help with offering a bill validation service, by checking previous bills and validating meter reads as far back as 6 years in order to ensure accuracy and correct charges along with providing a service to assist on VAT declarations.

Many community buildings in the UK can reduce VAT on their energy bills from 20% to 5% if they meet "de minimis" low-usage thresholds (under 33 kWh electricity/day or 145 kWh gas/day) or use energy for qualifying charitable/domestic purposes. A VAT Declaration Form must be submitted to the supplier to claim the reduced rate when a new deal is agreed. NRG Solutions can assist you with this.

How energy procurement helped a client

East Winch Church recently approached NRG Solutions for help as they were receiving some very high bills through their existing energy supplier (SSE). NRG found that the church had been billed incorrectly for their energy usage going back nearly 2 years, with incorrect meter readings being used by the supplier and estimated significantly above what the church was actually using.

See below the testimonial from Treasurer John Dunn - Treasurer

"We were very pleased with the service provided by Oliver at NRG Solutions (Norfolk) Ltd. His intervention resulted in a saving of over £4,500 for our local church. He was able to sort things out when all previous attempts to do so had failed. We are most grateful for his assistance, and we are now engaging NRG for our future procurement."
