On 1st April 2015, Community Action Norfolk (CAN) was formed through the merger of Norfolk Rural Community Council and West Norfolk Voluntary Community Action, combining their expertise to strengthen support for Norfolk’s voluntary, community, and social enterprise (VCSE) sector.

This milestone is a chance to reflect on our journey, impact, and the communities we continue to serve. The graphic below highlights key moments from the past decade, but our story began long before 2015. Our roots trace back over 40 years to the days of Norfolk Rural Community Council (Norfolk RCC)!

 

A Decade of Achievements

Over the past ten years, CAN has:

  • Led Sport for Change and CAN Connect, addressing social isolation and promoting wellbeing.
  • Secured major funding, including leading the support for the Norfolk Good Neighbour Network.
  • Responded to the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring vital community support continued remotely.
  • Advocated for community-led solutions, from affordable housing initiatives to improving rural energy efficiency through the West Norfolk Go Green Fund.
  • Strengthened the voluntary sector by supporting charities, organisations, and local groups across Norfolk.

     

Looking Ahead

As CAN marks ten years, the focus remains on ensuring Norfolk’s communities are resilient, well-supported, and sustainable. With new challenges ahead, CAN will continue to evolve, working closely with organisations and local groups to make a lasting impact.
