Launched as part of the government’s digital transformation programme, GOV.UK One Login is changing the way people access public services online.
Instead of keeping track of multiple usernames and passwords for different departments, users can now create a single, secure account. Once their identity is verified, that same account can be used across a growing number of government services – from HMRC to DVLA.
This approach not only makes life easier, it also improves security by reducing the need for repeated identity checks.
Across the UK, too many people still face barriers when interacting with public services online. Requiring separate logins and disconnected systems can be confusing, especially for those with limited digital skills or without easy access to technology. As the Digital Poverty Alliance highlights, digital exclusion remains a serious issue – and simplifying access is one important step towards closing the gap.
GOV.UK One Login is being rolled out gradually, with more services joining over time. The ambition is clear: one account, many doors – opening up government services in a way that’s secure, accessible, and easier for everyone to use.
