Over recent months we have been supporting Anglian Water’s ‘Love Every Drop’ campaign, encouraging people to consider ways in which they can save water and money. Simple behavioural changes can make a massive difference and by working together we can save more water for our environment, wildlife and future generations.
Did you know 46% of people think their household uses under 20 litres a day? In fact, the average person in our region uses 136 litres of water per day and with very little rainfall in the last 2 years, every drop makes a difference.
Want to see what kind of water user you are? Anglian Water have put together a fun quiz here.
In the garden
Reuse water from around the house such as water bottles and washing up bowls to water your garden
Collecting rainwater in a water butt can fill up a watering can 27 times for free. Don’t have water butts; containers work just as well!
Use a watering can instead of a hosepipe and save a whopping 225 litres of water in 15 minutes
In the kitchen
Washing your clothes on a full load will save you 10 litres every time
A running tap uses 15 litres every minute – so why not try washing your fruit and vegetables in a bowl of fresh water.
Use every space in your dishwasher before putting it on - each cycle can use 15 litres of water.
In the bathroom
Keep your showers to just 5 mins max - showering for just one minute less saves around 10 litres of water and £8 in energy costs per year
Remember to set the shower temperature to the level you want before turning on the shower, so you don’t waste a drop.
Turning off the tap while brushing teeth or washing your face can save over 2 full buckets of water per day.
