Healthy Living Services

Norfolk County Council’s Public Health Department fund range of healthy lifestyle services for adults that are available free of charge to Norfolk residents (or those with a Norfolk GP) who meet the eligibility criteria. (Note there are minimum BMI criteria for accessing the weight management services for free. The NHS BMI calculator helps people check their BMI score before they sign- up).

At time of writing (October 2021) the current offer is as follows

  • Free 12 week Slimming World voucher to use at a local group OR with Slimming World  online, whichever you prefer.  Norfolk GPs can provide patients with a voucher. Or you can self-refer by following the instructions on  this Norfolk County Council website page.
  • Man V Fat football leagues. Local leagues of football teams for men who are overweight.  There are currently leagues in Kings Lynn, Norwich (Bowthorpe) and Thetford, with new leagues planned including in Great Yarmouth.  An initial £10 deposit is charged but returned if you commit to your team and play at least 10 out of 14 games.   • Man V Fat (online) Challenge. Weekly nutrition and exercise challenges to create healthy habits around sustainable lifestyle changes. For more details go to  WWW.MANVFAT.COM/NORFOLK  or call 03451 630042  
  • Smoke Free Norfolk has advisors offering free 1-1,  support to help adults to quit smoking  and stay quit.  They also advise on nicotine replacement treatments  and vaping. Sometimes they have a vape voucher scheme.  For more details go to www.smokefreenorfolk.nhs.uk  0800 085 4113
  • MiQuit  An easy to use text message support service to help pregnant women to stop smoking. Sign up is  via the www.justonenorfolk.nhs.uk/miquit page.  It’s free except for the first text to sign up  which is charged at your standard rate.
  • iCASH an integrated contraception and sexual health service including testing for sexually transmitted diseases (STIs). More details can be found on this link iCASH.
  • Contraception GPs and many pharmacies can also advise and supply contraceptives.
  • Eat well, Move Well, Live Well –  a free 12 week healthy diet, cooking and exercise course run by the same Norfolk Adult Education team that gave us the Joy of Food. Check their Fitness and Wellbeing for start dates in local venues.  
  • Change Grow Live – an alcohol and drug behaviour change service with hubs across Norfolk.  CGL offers a range of alcohol and drug treatment options with support to overcome barriers to change www.changegrowlive.org
  • NHS Health Checks are free for those aged 40 – 74 at participating GP surgeries and pharmacies. Theses checks will soon  be offered by a new additional provider so we can catch up on checks  that  were missed during the pandemic. Keep an eye on the NCC  Health Checks web page
