New legislation comes into effect on Friday 1st April that places a duty on local authorities to create a register of people who have expressed an interest in self-build and custom build projects, and to make provision for those on the register in developing housing initiatives and local plans. Associations of individuals can also join the register, although all members should be seeking to live in the properties created as their primary residence.
