Norfolk Scrubs was inspired by the ‘For Love of Scrubs’ Facebook group set up by a Lincolnshire A&E nurse. Launching on the 20th March they would mobilise 1,200 volunteers to manufacture scrubs, laundry bags, hats and masks. The first set of scrubs would reach front line workers on the 19tH April, going onto to distribute 3,000 items to care homes, GPs, opticians, dentists, individual hospital teams, the air ambulance, mental health trusts, ambulance trust and community health teams. Many of the volunteers would talk about the importance of having a worthwhile task to their mental health at a time when many of their business were forced to shut. They would also say how much they had a sense of community despite never meeting as they worked as a team to collectively raise £43,000 and buy, distribute, cut and sew 20,000m of fabric.

This is part of a series of short examples of the huge contribution made by local VCSE organisations in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
