CANConnect grants have been awarded to community groups who are able to demonstrate a positive contribution to improving social engagement in their locality.

Wells-next-the-Sea Men’s Shed put their grant to good use in buying their ‘shed’. Actually, it’s not a shed but a substantial 40-feet long second-hand Portakabin. The shed is a centre for all their activities and the group has remodelled and customised it to better suit its new use.

They have fifteen regular members, with new members joining month by month. They’ve worked on more than twenty community projects in the past year, benefiting numerous organisations including the local hospital, library church, carnival, Coastwatch and flood defence wardens as well as many elderly folk in Wells.  The Shed is sited rent-free in the grounds of the Wells & Walsingham Light Railway. Sustainability is the key to the future and the members plan to install solar energy panels to keep energy bills down.

Wells men’s Shed manages their operation well through an enthusiastic and well-organised committee. Find out more about their activities here.

CANConnect can help connect you with people and activities in your community as well as provide a range of support to help you achieve your goals. We also provide support for the community itself. Helping organisations and people make the places we live, stronger, friendlier and more resilient.
